If you decide to use discount ink you can either buy a refill kit or buy remanufactured cartridges. The remanufactured cartridges are usually original cartridges that have been cleaned and refilled. These are generally more reliable than using a refill kit and you don’t have to worry about the potential mess.
Cost per page is usually higher with an inkjet printer because you frequently have to change cartridges. You can easily determine cost per page by dividing the cost of the printer cartridge by the yield (the number of pages that can be printed with one cartridge).
For example if you had a cartridge that cost $30.00 with a yield of 400 pages the cost per page would be figured as follows:
$30.00/400 = 0.075 or 7.5 cents per page.
When you look at it this way printing can become very expensive. Consider the above example, what if you used a remanufactured cartridge that cost $10.00 instead of $30.00 for a new one.
Then the cost per page would look like this:
$10.00/400 = 0.025 or 2.5 cents per page.
With this being said you may not always get the same yield out of a discount cartridge but it will still be able to reduce you cost per page significantly.
